Business In Focus – Mark Cresswell Joinery

If you live in or around Guisborough, you will have undoubtedly seen some of their work in homes or local businesses. From shop fits to decking, under-stair storage to entertainment units. The portfolio of work at Mark Cresswell Joinery is impressive! We took some time to sit with Mark and learn a little more about himself and the company’s plans for the growth.

Tell us a bit about Mark Cresswell Joinery?

I am a time served and established joner based in the East Cleveland area. I went self-employed once I completed my apprenticeship in 2000. I am trained in all aspects of joinery including maring joinery. I spent a lot of time working on some extremely large scale marine projects over the years including fitting out rigs, cruise liners and the new aircraft carriers ‘HMS Prince of Wales’ & ‘HMS Queen Elizabeth’

What sets you apart from other Joiners?

Planning! 100% planning. We spend a lot of time planning jobs beforehand and doing as we possibly can off site, this gives less impact on the customers day to day. We turn up to jobs with all the materials ready and well in advance, this planning aspect really sets us aside.

How have things been for your business during the lockdown?

Excellent… During the first lockdown we had a huge uptake in bespoke furniture orders, as these can be completed without any contact and delivered. It meant we were not only able to serve our customers still, but we were able to do so safely.

Things have just got better and better since the lockdown and restrictions have lifted, businesses are re-opening and people are more comfortable having work carried out now.

What is your favourite kind of project to work on?

Under stairs storage definitely. I think we have probably completed more of these than any other company in the North East, safe to say they are one of our specialties. It’s such an effective way of creating bespoke storage space out of what would usually be an unusable area, we’ve included pet beds, shoe and clothes storage,.. You name it.

You do commercial and domestic projects don’t you?

Yes! We have completed a number of shop fits throughout the North East. One of our latest projects has been the new instore build for ‘Ruffled Flowers’, you can see the completed project on our social media. This was carried out to their specification and needs and we are really pleased with the finished look.

What can we expect to see from Mark Cresswell Joinery in the future?

We have big plans, one of which is to expand our team, so hopefully in the not so distant future you will see a few of our vans running around!
